What We Learned This Week

Teen Mom‘s Leah Calvert must have a  p—- made of gold, oops, we meant to say ‘heart’ – a HEART of gold. On this weeks episode of Teen Mom 2: So hard to say good-bye, we had an epiphany.

20 something year old Leah Calvert must be doing something right. Either in the bedroom (our guess) or just has the greatest heart in the world. How can a girl (who gave back her engagement ring to rekindle love with baby daddy) pull off getting that ring back only a week later when she realizes her ex doesn’t want to commit? I’m not sure if it’s a backwoods thing, but I don’t know one male who would put up with that BS.

We want your thoughts! Guys – would you put up with these games? Ladies – do you agree or disagree with what she is doing? Let us know!

The Dreaded Family Reunion

Given the choice, a lot of us Bobs would rather stay at home and watch the NBA, the NFL, CSI, NCIS or one of so many other television shows or other passive entertainment than go to the dreaded family reunion. Well mine is this weekend and while I may be bucking the trend, I can’t wait to see portions of my family I only see once every few years.

It is more than just saying hello and trading hugs. Great stories are told (and retold) and it really gives me a sense of belonging. Family is all about history, continuity and the legacy left by those who are no longer with us at this year’s reunion. Some Bobs don’t feel this and that’s okay, I for one just enjoy seeing how everyone aged, how they interact and see if they can remember the reunion where my real Uncle Bob and my Dad broke into song, singing that awful song Oklahoma. Suffice it to say, they should both keep their day jobs. Life is in large measure about what we do, who we do it with and the memories we take from each event. Family reunions are rich in memory building material.

So my final thought, it’s great to see everyone smile (even if it is just a façade), the food is always great and plentiful and, as Seals and Crofts sang, ‘We may never pass this way again’ so plug-in your DVR and record what you must, there will never be another reunion like this one, make a good choice.

Peace.

Be Kind

Every December, a story enters into my brain about a random ‘act of kindness‘ that a person decided to bestow upon our family about 18-20 years ago. Times were tough and my parents were struggling to raise three children under 10 especially at their young age of 28 and 30. One day, my parents went out to our old beat up Pinto that didn’t have much kick left it in to find an envelope in the front seat. Not sure what to think, they opened it and found $500 with a note instructing them to spend this money on our family for Christmas. Presents, a tree, lights, and whatever else one would need to make the holiday not go unnoticed for us children. To this day, we are not sure who it was that left that envelope. It was one of the best Christmases to date (at least for me) because I learned a valuable lesson.

I learned that being kind to others is very important. Every person is fighting their own battle. To be free from their past. To live in their present. And to create their future. We’re all in this journey together. If we can make it less stressful on each other, wouldn’t that make for a better world?

It’s easy to remember this during the holidays since we’re in a giving frame of mind. Being kind goes past December. Take baby steps. Hold a door open for someone. Smile at a stranger as you walk past them. Ask each person you converse with how their day is going. You will be shocked at the response. Kindness IS contagious.
